The Painted Veil is a love story set in the 1920s of a young English couple. The husband, Walter Fane (Edward Norton) is a conservative doctor and the wife Kitty Fane (Naomi Watts) is a restless society girl. They were married hastily then relocate to Hong Kong. Kitty becomes dissatisfied with her marriage, as her husband favors of his research over time with her. Her dissatisfaction leads her to an affair with Charlie Townsend (Liev Schreiber). When Walter found their affair, he decided to bring her to a journey to the Far East fighting cholera. In the deadly journey into the heart of Ancient China, the find an unexpected chance at redemption and happiness.
